Inventing the wheel? Nothing to it!

Actually, there was a lot to inventing the wheel. I mean, we've all theoretically tipped our hat to the nameless inventor of said round object, but then again, we've also always felt like, duh, how hard could it have been? The thing is round. Of course it's gonna roll!

io9 provides the answer, and it wasn't as simple as it seems. Robert T. Gonzalez writes: "Many archaeologists and anthropologists think that the function and utility of a wheel likely seemed obvious to our ancestors, as well. The real challenge was in figuring out how to make that wheel operate as part of a larger system of moving parts." Aha!
